New marina in Puerto Rico to boost Caribbean property New marina in Puerto Rico to boost tourism
03/09/2008 @ 11:09

The Caribbean island of Puerto Rico is to gain a $300 million marina and nautical village to attract sailing enthusiasts and tourist cruises, and improve the value of local Caribbean property.

The 270 acre Discovery Bay Resort & Marina will be built on the north-west of the island between the towns of Aguada and Aguadilla, and is intended to offer a convenient stopover for tourists looking to travel on to the Virgin Islands or Dominican Republic. The development is expected to take around eight years to complete.

Thomas Cordero, president of Cordeco Northwest Corp, the landowner in Puerto Rico, told allatsea.net: "Cruisers who sail from Florida, through the Bahamas and Turks & Caicos to Puerto Plata, have to travel all the way over to San Juan or Puerto Rico's east coast before finding a marina. Our development will short-cut this trip".

The news will be greeted warmly be owners of beachfront Caribbean property in the region, whose rental incomes and house values will increase as the marina and local community attract investment from around the globe.
