John Sergeant escapes to the Caribbean
20/11/2008 @ 13:00

Journalist John Sergeant may have hung up his dancing shoes, but he has plenty to look forward to.

Despite no longer having the pleasure of dancing with the blonde bombshell that is Kristina Rihanoff on Strictly Come Dancing, Sergeant is heading off to the Caribbean to do some "work" that would make more than a few Brits jealous.

The journalist has an after-dinner speaking contract with P&O cruise liner Oceana and will enjoy an all expenses-paid jaunt around the Caribbean and down the Panama Canal, although he denies that is why he left the show.

"I do have a contract with a cruise liner to take me through the Panama Canal in two weeks' time but that had nothing to do with it," he said.

Sergeant left the TV show amid much controversy. After weeks of poor performances and being bashed by the show's judges for his "pig-like" dancing, Sergeant had outlasted many of his competitors after continuously being kept in the competition by phone votes.

He said he quit in order to avoid a "bloody battle" as he feared he might actually win the competition.

He will now escape to the luxury of the Caribbean, leaving fans to battle it out with the show's producers over why he was allowed to leave.
