Bahamas set for film festival
18/11/2008 @ 18:15

Owners of luxury Caribbean property in the Bahamas can look forward to the Bahamas International Film Festival (BIFF), which takes place between December 4th and December 11th.

This year's festival will see most of the screenings held at venues throughout Nassau rather than at the Atlantis Hotel on Paradise Island, according to the Bahamas Weekly.

The switch in venue will allow more people to attend and enjoy the festival's highlights, such as opening film Rain.

The Maria Govan film was developed through the Bahamas International Film Festival Filmmaker Residency Program, which was held in 2005.

Festival director Leslie Vanderpool explained that a change of venue was made necessary by the event's popularity.

"Celebrating our 5th year anniversary means that BIFF is making a connection between the incredible line up of films at BIFF and the local community," she said.

"Adding new venues throughout Nassau is the most logical way to accomplish this and most importantly having the filmmakers and actors of the films really hear the reaction of the Bahamian people."

In other Caribbean news, China's president Hu Jintao has met with Cuban leader Raul Castro to discuss trade between China and the Caribbean.
